Grass is always greener on the other side

It always looks better, the other side. It is the nature of human, the trait of never ending wants. No matter what you have, no matter how better you have, you always want more. This makes you feel that the other person has something better than you and you want it. People don’t realise that what they have in life is perfect, all it needs is your view to perceive it. Sad part is they don’t realise the perfectness of what they have until they lose it.

We all take things for granted, be it work, career, love, friendship or even the food and stuff kept at home. Simply because these things have been with us for long, and so is the habit to overlook them.

The grass is always greener on the other side; this proverb focuses on the comparing nature of mankind. We have this tendency of making comparison and feel that the other person is in a much better state than us or the other thing is much better than what we have. Instead of accepting and appreciating the things and people we have in our life, we always find a way to look at the things or people that are not available to us.

You might have felt this many times in life, for example the phone that other person owns is better. The job or work he is doing is so much fun and profitable. The results and achievements others get are better. If someone gets something why didn’t I get that? In some point in life while studying you must have thought that what use is this to me? Or I just want to quit studies; but there are also people who want to study but cannot due to unavailable resources to them.

This phenomenon can be seen in all, so it is possible that you meet a person who says that, you are leading a life that he envies you for. Contrary to his thoughts at that point you tell him that what he is leading is better than what you are.

Well, the above happens because you only see what is good in others possession or what he or she lets you know. You only realize the other side and the struggle in it when you get there. Same is applicable for the person on other side.

See, the key to a happy life is being content with who you are and where you are right now. Life is an awesome journey. That is not to say that you should settle for average or a life you are not happy with. You can and should work hard to reach where you want to be, to achieve your goals and dreams, but don’t wish away the present moment for some future happiness that you think you will achieve by copying someone else’s lifestyle. What you have to do is instead of looking at other people, you must value what you have. Next you must focus to change that into something you wish to achieve, because grass on the other side will always be greener until you value your own side.
